Thanks to a delighting experience at Burgoo SM Marikina, Rain being our Server.

We get pretty much often the same kind of service when we are in Gumbo Sm North EDSA,maybe because they are sis cos? hehehehe. Their deals are kinda good too, you get to order two main entrees and the third is free!

I simply rave for their Mississippi Mud Pie and its been a while i wanted to have a foto uploaded here! Well i'd still choose Chili's Mud Pie over this but price-wise, Burgoo's more affordable:)

Well i guess, not all appreciates the frequency and doubts the sincerity of his tvcs, but i'd say, Manny Villar and his team are getting what all political candidates are after of with his advertising campaign - to be talked about, be remembered no matter how obnoxious they may be, and later on 'brainwash' the voters that he is their HERO (specially those who just go and run to poll precints without a candidate in their minds) .

From OFW Rescue to Walang Iwanan, to Naging Mahirap, to Akala Mo, to Nakaligo ka na Ba (which even made me look for its lyrics) , and the recent Michael V - MV , Q&A series.

Well, may be effective for now but will cost him millions . AM not sure if can be carried on until near-election dates . Tignan natin! :)

MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo has declared Nov. 27 and 28 as non-working holidays in line with the celebration of the Eid'l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice), the culmination of Harirya Hajj or the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Mrs. Arroyo, on the eve of her 62nd birthday celebration, made the declaration after consultation with Saudi Arabian ambassador Mohammad Ameen Wali.
Eid'l Adha is the second major Islamic festival celebrated by 10 million Filipino Muslims in the country.
The first Muslim festival, Eid'l Fitr or the "Festival of Breaking Fast", is celebrated two months earlier.

Henry Sy runs the Philippines' largest retailer, but he operates his SM Group almost as if it were a family-owned corner greengrocery. Each week, the 80-year-old (estimated net worth: $1.2 billion), sporting his trademark Hawaiian shirt, gathers his six children at the company's warehouse-style offices near Manila's waterfront, where they oversee nearly every aspect of the business, from property deals to labor negotiations. On Saturdays, family members fan out to make firsthand inspections of their SM malls, department stores and supermarkets. On Sundays, Sy insists that the family meet yet again, either at his $2 million luxury log cabin in the lush hills outside Manila or the family home in the swish Forbes Park district of the capital. Though he is one of the Philippines' richest men, Sy sometimes spends Sunday mornings shopping in Manila's seaside market for fresh fish for the family's lunch, which he cooks himself. His specialty: fish soup with noodles.

Sounds like a scene from The Waltons? The Sam Waltons, perhaps. Sy's communal approach has helped him build the Philippines' equivalent of Wal-Mart: SM Group is a retail giant with 38,600 employees and annual revenues of $1.7 billion. But no matter how successful it has proved to be, Sy's children realize that this all-in-the-family management style is becoming outdated. Like so many of Asia's big business clans, a generational shift and the stresses of running an increasingly complex company are forcing the insular Sys to open up more and more to outsiders. "For my father, the organization is the family," says Sy's eldest daughter, Teresita Sy-Coson, whom the family calls "Tessie." But "in the future, you'll see more professional managers," she adds.

What may appear to be a simple matter of hiring a few experts is more traumatic in Asia, where tight-knit families are sacrosanct. The issue generates plenty of controversy in the Sys' usually congenial living room. Henry Sy says he wants to go slow in hiring outsiders. After all, kin can be counted on for their loyalty-not like strangers, who have their own agendas.

"If I have a good manager, and someone gives him a good offer, he will leave," Sy complains, sitting in an armchair at his log cabin. But his children disagree. "That's how we used to feel," 53-year-old Tessie contends from across the room. The business "has become too large for just a few people to manage." Her brother Hans, who heads SM's shopping mall business, agrees, "Our family has been very hands-on. [But now] we've had to delegate more work, more responsibility." So, over the past two years, day-to-day management of the Sy family department stores and malls has been handed off to recruits, and professionals now assist in financial decisions. Eighteen months ago, the family instated twice-monthly executive meetings to discuss the business with its top people; before, the Sys would just meet informally for lunch at one of their homes.

Certainly, complexities have multiplied since 1936, the year Sy left Jinjiang, a town near Xiamen in China, for the Philippines to join his father, the proprietor of a tiny grocery store in Manila. Dad was dirt-poor. "I cried when I first saw him," Sy recalls. Each night, the 12-year-old boy would clear the counter so that he would have a place to sleep. In the 1950s, Sy peddled cheap American shoes in his own Manila store, whose brass cash register today sits in a corner of his office as a reminder of his earlier struggles. Sy branched out into department stores in the late 1950s and supermarkets in the 1970s. But his big breakout came in 1985, when he opened his first supermall in the Quezon City district of greater Manila that was then practically undeveloped. The business community expected Sy to lose his Hawaiian shirt. Instead, his clean, air-conditioned venue introduced modern shopping to the Philippines. "We changed the lifestyles of the people here," Sy beams.

Today, the empire continues to grow in size and sophistication. SM operates 17 malls in the country and expects to open two or three more each year through 2008. The company has also entered the booming China market with a mall in Xiamen, and it's opening two more malls in the mainland over the next two years. Down the road, the Sys also want to diversify into commercial real estate and tourist resorts.

Having managers with personal stakes in the company's success is what gives SM its backbone, Sy maintains. Starting at age 13, each of his children was put to work stocking shelves and manning cash registers. Sy barred his children from studying overseas, fearful that they would stray too far from the business. Even today, when Tessie, Hans, and another brother, Herbert, who looks after SM supermarkets, are asked what they do for fun, all three stare nervously into their cups of coffee at a café in a Manila mall, then almost simultaneously mutter, "Work."

But Tessie and her siblings, like many in Asia's younger generation, also want the luxury of enjoying their success. Sy's children don't put as much pressure on their own kids to join the family business. Three are currently studying in Australia. "Life and work become one. My father would love that. He hoped we would be his clones," Tessie jokes. But now "we do have our own lives. That is the evolution," she says. After their father recedes from the business, they'll run the company by committee, the children say, though many in Manila expect Tessie to take the lead. She envisions a different role for the family, in which they provide oversight while professional managers handle day-to-day operations. Then "we can sit back and relax," Tessie hopes.

Still, the Sys worry that in bringing about these changes something important might get lost. The collegial atmosphere they've created can't be found in any ordinary boardroom. At one business lunch of Mexican food and salads at a hotel in Manila, the family banters happily about malls, local politics and their kids, each striving to talk over the other. When Sy declares, "I've never had an inferiority complex," Henry Jr., the eldest son, quips, "Only shopping complexes." The family bursts into gales of laughter. Tessie hopes for a "continuity of culture," in which SM keeps this family spirit even as the Sys' role diminishes. Maybe she can get some tips from the Waltons.

Plot Overview

Lord Voldemort has returned to power, and his wrath has been felt in both the Muggle and Wizarding worlds. Severus Snape, long considered an enemy of Voldemort and a member of Dumbledore's anti-Voldemort coalition, the Order of the Phoenix, meets with Narcissa Malfoy, mother of Draco and wife of Lucius, an imprisoned Death Eater. Snape makes an Unbreakable Vow to Narcissa, promising to protect her son, Draco.

Dumbledore heads to 4 Privet Drive to collect Harry from his aunt and uncle. On their way to the Burrow, Harry and Dumbledore stop to recruit Horace Slughorn to return to teaching at Hogwarts. Harry is reunited with his best friends, Ron and Hermione. When shopping for schoolbooks, Harry runs into Draco and follows him to Borgin and Burkes, where he overhears Draco threatening Borgin and insisting that he fix an unknown object. Harry is instantly suspicious of Draco, whom he believes to be a Death Eater, just like his father. The students return to school, and Dumbledore announces that Snape will be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts, much to Harry's surprise.

Harry receives a used Potions textbook that once belonged to someone named “The Half-Blood Prince.” Spells and amendments are written in the margins of the book, and Harry uses the Prince's notes to excel at Potions. Dumbledore schedules regular meetings with Harry in which they use Dumbledore's pensieve to look at memories of those who have had direct contact with Voldemort. Dumbledore believes that if Harry can learn enough about Voldemort's history, it will help him when they finally fight face to face, as the prophecy concerning Harry foretells. Harry learns about Voldemort's family, including his grandfather Marvolo, his uncle Morfin, and his mother Merope, who cast a love spell on a Muggle and was abandoned by him when it wore off. Voldemort was left at an orphanage and grew to be an unpleasant and aggressive boy. Harry also learns that Voldemort has divided his soul into seven Horcruxes. Two of these, Tom Riddle's diary and Marvolo's ring, have already been destroyed. One resides in Voldemort, one resides in a snake, one is Merope's locket, and the other two are suspected to be hidden in objects belonging to Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Gryffindor.

Ron acquires a new girlfriend, Lavender, of whom Hermione is extremely jealous. Harry feels stuck in the middle of his friends' bickering. Eventually, Harry falls in love with Ginny, Ron's sister, and Ron and Lavender break up, making Hermione quite happy. Harry spends much of his time keeping up with his duties as Quidditch captain and following Draco Malfoy. Harry uses his Marauder's Map to keep track of Draco, but often cannot find him on the map. Eventually, Harry realizes that when Draco is not on the map, he is using the Room of Requirement on the seventh floor of Hogwarts, which transforms into whatever its user needs. Harry tries his best to get in to see what Draco is up to, but until he knows exactly what Draco is using the room for, he cannot gain access. Eventually Harry and Dumbledore leave Hogwarts together to fetch and destroy Merope's locket, thus making Voldemort one step closer to mortal. They must overcome a variety of traps and challenges before reaching the basin where the locket is hidden under a poisonous potion. Dumbledore drinks the potion and Harry fights off Voldemort's Inferi. They take the locket and return to Hogwarts as quickly as possible. Dumbledore is quite weak, and when they reach Hogsmeade they can see that the Dark Mark is visible above the astronomy tower.

Harry and Dumbledore rush toward the tower. When they arrive, Dumbledore uses his magic to freeze Harry in place, while Harry remains hidden by his cloak of invisibility. Draco Malfoy sprints into the room, threatening Dumbledore's life. Weak and with his wand out of reach, Dumbledore stalls Draco, telling him that he is not a killer and that the Order of the Phoenix could protect him and his mother from Voldemort. Draco lowers his wand, and Snape pushes into the tower. Harry cannot move or speak, but he hears members of the Order fighting Death Eaters below. Snape raises his wand and kills Dumbledore, sending him flying over the edge of the tower. When Dumbledore dies, his spell on Harry is broken, and Harry rushes after Snape, determined to avenge the death of his friend and headmaster. Snape escapes, and Harry is devastated. He looks at the locket he and Dumbledore retrieved and realizes that it is not a Horcrux. Inside the locket is a note from someone named “R. A. B.” Harry tells his friends he will not be returning to Hogwarts next year and will instead search out and kill Voldemort by destroying all of the Horcruxes. Ron and Hermione vow to join him.
